JM M Loved everything about this series. The MLs the FLs and supporting cast all superb. The writing, direction, cinematography all stellar. It's been a while since I felt this excited about a Kdrama. The ML is captivating. I cried, I laughed, I shouted and cringed. All over the map with hitting the emotions. Brilliant. Easy 10 eps. Netflix seems to be stepping up their game. This is a stunning show. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Katrin P "Mr. Plankton" is a stunning teaching story on the subject of powerlessness and personal responsibility. The series is equally funny and tear-jerking, fast-paced and turbulent but not superficial. A successful road movie with the basic theme of "knockin' on heaven's door".The excellent acting and interaction of the five main actors and the well-rounded story structure make this series one of my K-drama highlights. And the depth of the content matches the perfect form:The story of this series skilfully shows that it is a paradox: only those who stubbornly seek their own happiness will ultimately make others happy. It is an old myth of the authoritarian relationship culture that we have to "hold back" for the good of all. If we really take ourselves seriously, we do not become egocentric or narcissistic but self-responsible. Narcissism arises from a lack of love, not from real self-love!As a relationship coach, I call this natural relationship law self-responsibility, Jesper Juul calls it personal responsibility and Veit Lindau aptly characterizes it as enlightened egoism. The film's main character, Mr. Plankton, feels at the bottom of everything, betrayed by his parents, disadvantaged by life and is thus a typical challenging "child" who has given up all cooperation with society. When he is then diagnosed with a fatal illness, he makes one last attempt to find his "happiness".Due to his own experiences of abandonment, he has become a master of relationship breakdowns himself. He fights his way through his final days headfirst and actually does everything wrong. He hides his inner self, he doesn't coordinate with those around him, he kidnaps his ex-love on their wedding day and then abandons her, he seems to drag everyone around him into the abyss with his selfish actions. In the end, however, it is precisely through his unconditional search for his origins and his love that he will experience that he has friends, inspires people, and can give and take love. He will - quite unintentionally - drag other people along with him so that they can each grow into their own strength. This does not make his personal death any easier, but it does become a catalyst for the personal development of himself and those around him, so that together we can escape powerlessness and fate. Sharing the pain, having friends, loving and being able to be loved – only this gives a deep connection and tangible vitality that even death cannot take away from us.
