ANALYSIS OF THE WOMAN IMAGE AS REFLECTED IN ERGÜN SAV'S TALE

Gender studies have become more clearly expressed as a result of the abuses of women and children by imperialist countries in the 21st century. In this context, women and child labour had become one of the most essential tools for imperialist countries trying to increase their welfare and status through colonisation activities as it was the cheapest workforce. Moreover, this study argues that this is not the case in Anatolia. The study employs Ergün Sav's Taşbebek as a text to investigate the status of women in Anatolia. In this respect, the study criticises Mahmut's father's suggestion that Mahmut should get married with another girl (kuma) beside Zehra due to Zehra's inability to give birth to a child. The study argues that the representation of women in the tale cannot give a general picture of the status of women in Anatolia. In the study, the portrayal of the ‘kuma’ culture in Anatolia as an ordinary event is criticised and it is argued that this depiction does not accurately reflect the reality. The study argues that the settled culture in Anatolia does not approve of the 'kuma'. On the contrary, the study suggests that women are important elements of the family and society whose opinions are valued and taken into consideration. In this context, the Turkish epic Dirse Han Boğaç Han Oğlu written by Dede Korkut, is referred to in the study as it confirms the respected position of women in Turkish culture. Based on this premise, the study argues that 'kuma' is not widespread in Anatolia and that this situation was realized in a narrow region. The study was conducted using qualitative research methods and text analysis techniques and was limited to Taşbebek as the research text.

Feminizm ve Antifeminizm Algısı: Üniversite Öğrencileri Üzerine FPS Ölçeği İle Bir Çalışma

Öz. 1998 yılında Nancy M. Henley ve çalışma arkadaşları (Henley, Meng, O'Brien, McCarthy, & Sockloskie, 1998) tarafından geliştirilen Feminist Perspektif Ölçeği (The Feminist Perspectives Scale, bundan sonra FPS olarak anılacaktır) temelde Feminizme yönelik şu altı farklı perspektifi araştırmaya odaklanmıştır: Muhafazakârlık, liberal feminizm, radikal feminizm, sosyalist feminizm, kültürel feminizm, WOC- Women of Color (Beyaz olmayan kadınlar için Feminizm). Bu çalışmada ise üniversite öğrencilerinin “feminist/feminizm” olgularına dair algıları ile Liberal Feminizm, Kültürel feminizm ve Radikal Feminizme dair tutumlarının ölçmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla FPS ölçeği, uyumlulaştırılarak geliştirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın uygulaması Pamukkale Üniversitesi İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi öğrencilerinden cinsiyete göre tabakalı rastlantısal örneklem yoluyla 51 kadın 50 erkek öğrenci seçilerek gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu öğrencilere anketleri bir kadın ve bir erkek araştırmacı uygulaması suretiyle araştırmacının cinsiyetinin etkisi de kontrol altına alınmaya çalışılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin büyük bir çoğunluğunun pratikte feminist eğilimler barındırmasına karşın feminizme karşı ön yargılı olduğu görülmüştür. Farklı feminizmler içinde en yakın olduklarının liberal feminizm olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Feminizm, Antifeminizm, Feminist Perspektif Skalası **** Abstract. The Feminist Perspectives Scale (hereinafter referred to as FPS), developed by Nancy M. Henley and colleagues in 1998 (Henley, Meng, O'Brien, McCarthy, & Sockloskie, 1998) measures five types of feminism. The scales of the FPS are liberal feminism, radical feminism, socialist feminism, cultural feminism, womanism/WOC, and conservatism. In this study, in order to measure the perceptions of university students about "feminist / feminism", FPS scale was tried to be harmonised and developed. The application of the study was carried out by selecting 51 female and 50 male students from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Pamukkale University through stratified coincidental sampling according to sex. To control the influence of the researcher's gender, a female and male researcher applied the questionnaires to the students. As a result of the research, it has been seen that a large majority of the students are prejudiced against feminism, despite having feminist tendencies in practice.
